Highland Haven Farm is a small grass-based diversified family farm in Hillsboro, Ohio.  It is carefully managed by Adam and Iva Hershberger and their four children, Susanna, Paul, Rubin and Miriam.  

 

Our mission is

to produce nutrient-dense dairy products

and meats from pastured animals,

the foods that God intended for us to eat; 

to reduce our family's and our customers' carbon footprints; 

to provide a safe and healthy place to raise our children; 

and to help heal our environment.  

 

 

About Highland Haven Farm

 

 At Highland Haven Farm, we take our environmental impact seriously.  We live off the grid, relying on horses and hand labor instead of petroleum-powered equipment to do our farming.  Although this may sound extreme, to us it has always been a way of life.  Living and farming in this way allows us to greatly reduce the carbon footprint of both our family and our clientele.   In addition, by carefully managing our grass farm, we are able to sequester carbon out of the atmosphere, up to 10 times more carbon than national forests. 

 

Highland Haven Farm is part of the Sinking Springs Community, a group of small farms and cottage producers.  Sinking Springs produces a variety of nutritious foods, including maple syrup, sorghum molasses, honey, vegetables, whole grain breads, pickles, sauerkraut, jams, and pasture-raised eggs.  Many of these products are available online to our herdshare members. 

 
 

 What is raw milk?

Raw milk is fresh, unprocessed whole milk produced by pastured grass-fed cows.  Raw milk is rich in vitamins and nutrients, and can help protect against disease by stimulating the immune system.

Herdshares

 

Raw milk can be obtained legally in Ohio through a herdshare boarding contract, or agistment.  Each share represents legal ownership of a portion of a herd, which then entitles you to a corresponding amount of the herd's milk production. 

 

One herdshare allows you to obtain one 'unit' of dairy products per week.  One unit equals one of these items: 1 gallon of milk, 2 quarts of yogurt, 16 oz cream, 8 oz butter or other various dairy.

Delivery information

 

Dairy products are ordered each week via website, and can be picked up directly at the farm or at one of our delivery points.  We use the same delivery routes and pickup locations as the Cedarmore Farm CSA, which provides its members with a weekly box of in-season fresh vegetables. 

 

We currently offer weekly deliveries to Hillsboro, Mt. Orab, Batavia, Eastgate, Anderson, Loveland, Mason, Westwood, Norwood, Kenwood, Clarksville, Lebanon and downtown Cincinnati.
